how to play: posting tips & tricks
The concept behind ArtDialogue is simple: create conversations using images instead of words (think collaborative silent movie)
Each week we will tweet a new image (& its corresponding theme)
We want you to participate in creating the dialogue by tweeting a responding image.
We will be retweeting all @1stfan responses so that you can watch the conversation unfold
Eventually we hope that conversations develop “threads” as 1stfans follow the dialogues and continue to post replies to each others responses.
After the jump are some tips & tricks for doing this within the text based environment of twitter
Basic Steps
Step One: first you need a responding image: you have a couple of options here:
- use an image already on the web
- take a picture
Step Two: tweet the url of the image to @1stfans
Accomplishing Step One: obtaining the image
Finding an existing images on the web
- Remember, you can use any type of image: a painting, a photo, anything
- You can use an image from anywhere, it doesn’t have to be yours; when it gets reposted here there will be a credit & a link back to the original source
- You can always use image search engines w/the current theme as a keyword if you get stuck (and remember, humor & irreverence add spice to any conversation)
- google images
- picsearch
- bing images
- fagan finder
- imagetoss … you get the picture
- If you are part of a museum, we would love to see the images from your collections used in the dialogues
- And of course we especially love when anyone makes an original image specifically in response to the dialogue
I’ve taken a picture, now what
- if you’ve taken a cell phone snap, the easiest way to post it to twitter is to use one of the many sites that integrate with twitter to upload & tweet images: top 10 photo sharing sites on mashable
very important: remember to tweet @1stfans in your subject line when you send the image so we can retweet- use a photosharing service (such as flickr) to upload your image to the web and then follow the steps below for tweeting its url
and if you use flickr, please add your image to the our flickr group
Accomplishing Step Two: tweeting your image
this might seem obvious, but what url to use can vary depending on where an image is located
here are a few tips that will help the dialogue progress
- Image is located on a web page
- if it is obvious which image on the page you are responding with (or if there is only one image), tweet the url of the page.
- if there are many images on a page that could be possible responses, grab the actual url of the image and tweet that but PLEASE also DM @1stfans with the url of the page where you found the image so we can give proper credit when it is posted here.
- Image is located on a blog
- tweet the blog post url (permalink), not the home page url for the blog
(you can generally get the post url by clicking on the post’s title, date or permalink link- again, if there are many images in the post that could be possible responses, grab the actual url of the image and tweet that but PLEASE also DM @1stfans with the url of the post itself so that we may credit it properly.
- Image is located on a photosharing service: tweeting the url for the page the image is located on is fine but again, remember to go to the individual page for that image, don’t just send a link to a user’s hompage
2 VERY IMPORTANT things to include in your tweet
- if you are responding to the initial theme post: include @1stfans
- if you creating/continuing a “thread” by responding to another 1stfans reply: please also include their @name & the thread# (this info will be found at the bottom of each post here)
