This is the last post for ArtDialogue; the Brooklyn Museum’s 1stfans twitter feed for January. Each Monday in January a new theme was tweeted for 1stfans to respond to with an image. 1stfans were also asked to help create “image conversations” by responding (with an image) to what had been previously submitted. This blog was designed to serve three functions:
- provide access to the visual flow of the conversation* during the course of the project
- document the project
- create a way for non 1stfans to experience the completed work
In the right sidebar you will find links to each dialogue and it’s threads; there you will also find instructional and informational posts relating to various aspects of the project. In addition to (a) announcing each theme/requesting participation and (b) RTing 1stfans responses, I also tweeted links from the twittersphere to other collaborative image-based projects and to content that seemed to address similar issues relating to art, community and social media. These links are collected in the collaboration inspiration section; below are a few of my favorites:
- @ninaksimon’s paper on Social Participation
- @manbartlett’s #circlefriday
- @platea’s web-based performance: #plateaknit
Given the final theme “meta”, I would like to close to the project with this link: 10 ideas in January
I had a great deal of fun; a huge thank you to the 1stfans who participated:

and a special thanks to 1stfans’ fearless leaders: Shelley Bernstein and Will Carey and to Eugenie Tsai for giving me the opportunity to realize this project.
I have had a lot of thoughts about art/twitter/community while doing this project and have posted an analysis of what I learned in relationship to the 1stfans Twitter Art Feed.
